While we didn't camp at this park (all the sites were full when we booked several months in advance), we did visit for stargazing.

If you live within driving distance, I would definitely recommend a trip - it'll be like nothing you've ever seen before!

We visited Cherry Springs for the first time last weekend and fell completely in love. The sites were perfect for tents, there's no electric but there are water pumps through the the grounds. There is a great trail that runs through the park that I could have walked over and over again. The sky here is like nothing I've ever seen. You feel like your in the clouds during the day and the stars at night are breathtaking. We did have black bear come through our site after a storm so make sure to always keep food and perfume products in your car at night and clean up scraps. We left with some teeth marks in our cooler that we'll use as a reminder.

Cherry Springs State Park was AMAZING!! We went to see the dark sky and meteor shower. The parking was super easy. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We registered for their night sky program. The educator provided a fun, informative and interactive experience. After the presentation they had 3 huge telescopes that everyone could look through to see Jupiter and 4 of Jupiter's moons. We also saw the International space station. The milky way was gorgeous. My only recommendation would be to bring chairs, wear layers and lots of blankets! We would have been able to stay longer with our 2 small children had we been warmer. The weather forecast said the low would be 57 degrees, but when we got in our car the temperature was 45 degrees! This is definitely a must see! Happy stargazing!

The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful; we all enjoyed the program and wished we had registered so we could get more time on the telescope. It got pretty chilly and was quite windy, so be sure to check the weather and bring lots of extra layers and blankets if you're planning on staying awhile. Also, there isn't much cell service around at all, so you'll be better off navigating with paper instructions or a GPS.

The views were absolutely amazing, and the Milky Way was beautiful and bright! It was a clear night, and we could see the Milky Way across the entire sky, from the northern horizon to the southern one. We saw many meteors, including the biggest, brightest one I've ever seen. We stayed until around midnight, and we were pretty much the last ones left in the stargazing field, so come late (and after moonset) if you want to avoid crowds and see the stars and Milky Way more brightly.

Oh my goodness, you need to go here. Late at night when the stars are bright.... If feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere. So beautiful! Grab some blankets and popcorn watch the stars fall!

PA is a beautiful state, which made me think that maybe I was in Kansas when I saw this big flat field they call a “park.” As for the sky? It’s everywhere. Big deal.
